The Samurai Kitchen knife set comes from the novelty item company Fizz Creations. The company is successful although it specialises in novelty items of every shape and form you can possibly imagine. They are not known for the quality knife making skills…
The Samurai Kitchen Knife Set comes with:
- Chef’s knife
- Bread knife
- Utility knife
- Paring knife
- Knife stand
This knife is obviously a fairly novelty item and I’m not hugely impressed with it out of the box. It could look so sleek and elegant but it just doesn’t, not with the plastic handles and the slightly ill fitting scabbards. From a distance they look intriguing but close up I’m just not sure they cut the mustard.
The blades don’t feel particularly sturdy and the steel isn’t very high quality although it will do the job for a while. They will need sharpening regularly and will require looking after to last a particularly long time.

The chef’s knife needs more strength to really be used for everything but it’s not bad for chopping vegetables.
Out of the box these are sharp but they aren’t very resistant to wear and for the ambitious and regular cook, you might need another set for some of your work to make these last longer. If you don’t cook huge amounts and just want a reasonable set that will behave when you need them too – these are actually all right.
For the price, the design is certainly eye-catching and I can see it appealing to lots of people, perhaps even inspiring some to get into cooking, which can’t be a bad thing! As novelty knife sets go, I think this one has merit and the blades will be alright for most of your average everyday cooking. If you’re looking for high quality though, this probably isn’t it. You’ll need to pay more for that.
Pros
- Eye-catching design
- May encourage fans of the design to get into cooking
- Very affordable
Cons
- Cheap looking handles
- Not high quality blades
- Won’t last for years and years or survive a lot of heavy use
Summary
Like the Voodoo knife set by Rafaelle Ianello, this is really a design-based decision. These knives will suit those who don’t do much heavy work in their kitchen or have a separate set of better knives for the serious stuff. For light work and casual cooking though, these aren’t bad.
Look after them and keep them rust free and these will probably serve you well for a while. I wouldn’t recommend to giving them the abuse you would a more specialist knife, but for simple cooking – these are pretty cool.
