The all purpose knife is unfaultable and you’ll find yourself using it for so much. Its weight and strength allows it to handle meats and vegetables including root vegetables, with ease. The paring knife is small and handy for fruit and vegetables as well but you’ll often find the all purpose knife gets used for that too.
A bad bread knife is a deal breaker but luckily no deal has been broken here. The bread knife cuts cleanly with a sharp and serrated edge and doesn’t create the mess of bread around the edges that your old one might have. It’s a daily essential that has to be good and this one undoubtedly is.
For larger cuts of meat or whole birds there is a carving knife and an accompanying carving fork. These are useful knives although it depends how often you eat roasts as to whether they’re necessary or not. Still, even if you only have a roast at Christmas, this is still considered an essential pair and will come in handy one day.
A three rivet handle graces each knife and the construction is flawless, preventing dirt build up and allowing them to be easily hand washed as well as being dishwasher safe. They sit comfortably in the wooden block at a good angle and the block itself is secure on the counter on rubber feet.

Conclusion
This knife set ticks all the boxes if you’re an ambitious cook looking for undeniable quality and it certainly won’t leave you lacking. The quality and design also suits professional kitchens and student chefs but is not strictly necessary for the domestic kitchen. However, it’s a pleasure to use this level of expertise in an implement and it’s hard to fault.
Because of the price, it is wise to consider how much you would use these knives in the set’s entirety as Richardson Sheffield have smaller sets of equal quality. The domestic chef could happily get away with the smaller, 5-piece Richardson Sheffield V Sabatier set or the beautifully designed Richardson Sheffield Kyu Knife Block Set, also 5-piece. If it’s range you want though, it does not get better than this 9-piece.
