Rafaelle Iannello is an Italian designer whose innovative and iconic designs have got him commissions from companies all over the world. He is an adept designer and his works never fail to thrill and inspire the audience and customer. One of his most successful and famous creations is the Voodoo Knife block.
The Voodoo Rafaelle Iannello Knife Block Set comes with:
- Paring knife
- Carving knife
- Cook’s knife
- Bread knife
- Vegetable knife
I know, I know – you’ve fallen in love with this design and are moments from buying it purely because it looks absolutely awesome. But then you think, huh…I wonder if the knives are actually good? Well you’ve come to the right place.
First of all, the knife holder man is plastic rather than metal, which, in real life, gives the whole thing a rather more kitsch feel than before. If it had been metal, I can see that the set would look ten times more robust and not like a cheaply made novelty item. Still, the stand sits well on the counter and I wouldn’t distrust it.
The knives themselves are made quite well and with high quality molybdenum-vanadium stainless steel. They might not last you for decades, but they should certainly be good for several years. Which may be the length of time it takes for you to get bored of the design…
The knives are a reasonable selection and shouldn’t really give you any problems in the kitchen. They lack the weight, balance and solidity of more specialist knives and even some other brands in the same price range but they should serve the every day casual cook reasonably well.
To prevent damage to hands etc. when in storage, the knives come with plastic sheaths which I actually dislike. Yes, they’re useful to cover the blades but they look a bit last minute and I think it detracts from the design slightly.
If you’re loving the design and aren’t looking for investment or exceptional quality knives then I don’t think you’ll be disappointed here except for the plastic construction of the storage man. The knives do their job reasonably and it’ll certainly get comments from visitors!

Pros
- Eye-catching, iconic design
- Reasonable selection of knives

Cons
- Knives lack the quality of many other brands in a similar price range
- Storage man is plastic
- Plastic sheaths look untidy
Summary
Really this is a design-based decision. These are not knives for serious or trainee chefs or those who value quality over looks. On the other hand, if you’re an average home cook who wants to add a bit of non-food zazzle into your kitchen then why not get this? It is pretty funky. The knives certainly aren’t poor quality and will get you started happily as a keen amateur chef. Look after them well, especially regarding rust and you’ll find this a happy companion for several years at least.
