Since 1839 Richardson Sheffield, have been one of the top players in European knife manufacturing. While Germany has the town of Solingen for their knives, Britain has Sheffield and this is where, after a time away, Richardson Sheffield continue to create their highly prized knives.
The Richardson Sheffield R: Vision 5 Piece Knife Block Set contains:
- Paring knife
- All purpose knife
- 20cm Cook’s knife
- Carving knife
- Bread knife
- Wooden knife block
This is a particularly sleek collection that would be ideally suited to the keen amateur cook as well as the seasoned professional. It has a good selection of knives and comes in a traditional ash wood block. For those who value quality in the kitchen, even if they aren’t professionals, this is a great set.
First of all, this set is presented exquisitely and the knife block is actually elegant rather than just a standard wooden block. Richardson Sheffield have created a particularly visually attractive knife collection here and their flowing, curve handles fit comfortably in the hand. They are a pleasure to use with their classic rivet style and their sharp blades.
The bread knife is solid and sturdy and cuts with no qualms and no tears. It doesn’t compress the bread and I really enjoy using it. It will cut through fresh warm bread with an ease that will actually surprise you – so hard is it to find a quality bread knife at such a good price.
The cook’s knife is one of my favourite cook’s knives so far and works wonderfully. It alone makes food prep a million times easier and has a very solid, quality feel to it. If you look after it, I can see this knife being your best friend for decades to come.
These knives are all made of high quality Chrome Molybdenum Vanadium High Carbon Stainless Steel (like most professional knives are) and it gives a strength that you know you can trust. Resistant to wear and rust, you should expect this set to last you for years and years, with only occasional sharpening as they tend to keep their sharpness very well.
All the knives fit into their ash wood block nicely and the selection of knives here should suit the busy domestic cook with ease. The price is exceptionally good for this brand and I would say that you’d be hard pressed to find the same quality, selection and price in another brand easily.

- Sleek and elegant design
- High quality, low price
- Will last for years
Cons
- For those who are truly experimental, you might be better off with a bigger set of 9 knives
Summary
For those who enjoy home cooking, this would really be an ideal set: great quality, great longevity. For those who are really adventurous and are looking for knives like Santokus and Sabatiers…perhaps you’d be better of with a larger collection for not that much more money.
It’s a high quality set that I can only recommend – whether you get it or not depends on your needs and how big a selection you need.
