Wüsthof is a German company that has been making knives in the home city of knife-making for two hundred years. The company couldn’t be more of a knife making connoisseur if it was called The Knife Company of Knifetown.
Based in the German city of Solingen, Wüsthof make knives used by world-renowned chefs as well as those that grace our television screens such as Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsey and James Martin. Almost all their knives are precision forged except for a couple of lines which are stamped or laser cut. Wüsthof has a reputation that can only be created by years of absolutely flawless products and you’ll find their knives in many high class professional kitchens.

The Wüsthof Classic Gourmet 3-Piece Knife Set contains:
- 20cm (8”) Cook’s Knife
- 16cm (6”) Utility Knife
- 9cm (3 ½”) Paring Knife
This Classic Gourmet 3-Piece Set is designed for the keen domestic cook who wants the best tools without needing professional standard. For such a small set, these three knives actually cover a vast range of needs and you’ll find yourself needing little else. They’re all precision-forged with full tangs giving them a perfectly weighted, solid feeling and impressive strength.
The ergonomically shaped handle gives you vital confidence in your grip and is pleasant to hold. It’s made of a synthetic black material that’s merged so perfectly with the steel that, even on close inspection, there are no crevices for dirt or food to linger. With three flush rivets, there’s absolutely nothing in these knives to suggest structural weakness would or could ever occur.
A personal favourite in this set is the utility knife. At 16cm is covers a lot of preparation needs, even large cuts of meat, without feeling like you’re wielding a giant knife. The accompanying cook’s knife is fantastic and indispensible but it’s the utility knife that really stands out as that perfect in-between size.

- Great range of size despite only three knives
Cons
- Expensive for the average household
- Missing essentials such as the bread knife
Conclusion
This small set of Wüsthof knives are no-nonsense, supreme quality kitchen knives and they’re pretty magnificent to use. If you were to buy these then they would certainly be investments and their construction and blades ensure they’d last a very long time in a great state. It really depends whether you’re willing to spend this much on just three knives.
If you have other knives, such as a bread knife, which don’t need replacing, then this set could be ideal. But if you are looking for a more comprehensive set then you could get a larger one for the same price from a different company without compromising quality too much.
